What is It?:	"Fàilte" means welcome in Gaelic, and all Scottish dancers, beginners and experienced, are most welcome! The Fàilte Ball is intended to be a gentle introduction to the ball scene for newer dancers, and a fun night for all. Enjoy a scrumptious dessert buffet, live music, and dancing in a semi-formal setting. Never been to a ball before and not sure what to expect? Place:	The Celtic Junction (New Location!!) 836 Prior Avenue, St. Paul
	Doors Open at 6:30pm. Grand March at 7:00pm
Music:	Thistledown (Anne Benson, Sherry Ladig, Pat O'Loughlin, and Ken Steffenson)
Tickets:	$20.00 A discount of $5 is offered to students and those who are attending their first Scottish country dance ball. Tickets for non-dancers are $10 (includes dessert buffet and live music). To register, complete the registration form (PDF) and enclose a check made out to RSCDS Twin Cities Branch to to Theresa Livingston, 1659 Chamber Street, St. Paul, MN 55106. Don't forget to indicate whether you need hospitality and if so, contact the hospitality coordinator (see below). If you would like dance directions mailed to you, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope.
Accomodations:	Hospitality is available for out-of-town guests. Please contact Gail Fagerstrom, email: piperghf [at] yahoo.com or tel: 952 882-3582. Indicate how many people, how many beds are needed, and any special needs.
Other Activities:	. There will be a ball practice (walk-through of the entire program) from 7:30 to 9:30pm on Friday, December 4th at Southwest Center, 3612 Bryant Ave S in Minneapolis. There be a ball practice (dance-through of selected dances from the program) from 1:30pm to 3:30pm on Saturday, December 5th at Jawaahir Dance Company Studios, 1940 Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis (intersection of Franklin and Hennepin Aves). There will be a potluck"after-glow" party, at the home of Hannah Wells in St. Paul. Directions will be available at the ball.

Waltz Country Dance

40 Waltz (couple facing couple around the room) Text hiddenRSCDS 4

1-2 Balance forward and back.

3-4 Travel forward passing opposite by right shoulder to end facing partner.

5-8 Repeat 1-4 but passing partner right shoulder.

9-16 Repeat 1-8 to end in original positions.

17-18 Join hands in a ring and dance forward and back.

19-20 Men swap women on their left over to their right side.

21-32 Repeat 17-20 three more times.

33-40 Take partner in ballroom hold and waltz around and past the other couple to change places. End facing original direction to meet a new couple.

Crom Allt (The Crooked Burn)

8x32 R 3C Goldring/24 Graded & Social

1-8 Mirror reels of 3 on the sides, 1C dancing in and down to begin.

9-12 1M with 2M, 1W with 2W mirror turns 1 1/2 times, 1C dancing in to begin (i.e. Women LH, Men RH).

13-16 1C dance down between 3C, divide, and cast up to 2nd place on own sides.

17-20 1C and 1st corners advance and retire.

21-24 1C and 1st corners turn RH and finish back on the sidelines.

25-28 1C and 2nd corners repeat bars 17-20

29-32 1C and 2nd corners turn LH and finish back on the sidelines.

6x32 S 2C RSCDS 15

1-4 1C turn RH.

5-8 1M and 2W turn LH and finish in 2nd place in the middle, facing up. 1W and 2M dance in on bar 8 to meet in 1st place.

9-16 1W with 2M and 1M with 2W dance the allemande.

17-24 1C followed by 2C (2M starts upwards) lead down the middle and up (2C leading on the way back up)

25-32 2C and 1C dance Rights and Lefts.

1-8 With nearer hands joined, 1C and 2C advance & retire, then cross to partner's position, women going under an arch made by the men, and both couples changing places on the sides, leading couple turning under the arm of the other dancer.

9-16 Repeat bars 1-8, women making the arch.

17-24 1C lead down the middle and up.

25-32 1C and 2C poussette.

11-12 1C, 4C turn the corners by the free hand to finish 1C btw 2C facing down and 4C btw 3C facing up.

13-16 Repeat bars 9-12 up and down the set (couple coming up make the arch).

17-24 Repeat bars 9-16 to finish in order 2C, 1C, 4C, 3C with 1C and 4C on wrong sides.

25-28 1C & 4C half rights & lefts.

29-32 4C, 1C turn RH.

Canadian Barn Dance

1-4 Nearer hands joined, move forwards (CCW) with 3 runs (outer foot starting) and a hop, then repeat moving backwards

5-8 Move away from partner with the same step and clap on the hop, and move back into ballroom hold with a new partner (women join with the man who was behind her, men with the woman from the couple ahead)

9-12 Step-together-step-hop in line of dance (CCW) and back (CW).

13-16 Turn and progress around the circle with step-hop, and opening out to face CCW and begin again

8x32 S 3C RSCDS 11

1-4 1C turn RH and cast to 2nd place.

5-8 1C turn LH 1 1/4 to finish 1W between 2C facing down, 1M between 3C facing up.

9-12 Set in lines of 3 across the dance. On bars 11-12, 1C dance a petronella turn to finish in 2nd place on partner's side of the set.

13-16 All set twice.

17-24 2C, 1C, 3C circle six hands round and back.

25-32 1C pass 2nd corner right shoulder to dance six-bar reels of three on the sides with corners. 1C cross RH to own sides on bars 31-32.

1-4 1C dance down (no hands given), cross below 3C and cast up to finish in middle of the set facing 2W.

5-8 1C and 2W dance right hands across.

9-12 1C and 2M dance left hands across. 1C finish in the middle of the set facing up, 1W in front of 1M.

13-16 1W, followed by 1M, dance up and cast off on own sides round 2C to finish in the middle of the set facing 3M.

17-20 1C and 3M dance right hands across.

9-16 2C dance a diagonal reel of 4 with 2nd corners.

17-24 Progressive grand chain: 1C cross RH (2 bars), 1C change places LH with 2C (2 bars), 1C change places RH with 3C while 2C cross RH (2 bars), 1C cross LH while 2C and 3C change places LH (2 bars).

25-28 3C and 2C dance half rights and lefts.

29-32 3C dance half a figure of eight, 3M up around 2C, 3W down around 1C.

13-14 Balance in line.

15-16 1C (leaving first corners in place) turn 1 1/4 LH to face 2nd corners.

17-22 Repeat bars 9-14 with 2nd corners.

23-24 1C turn LH to own sides in 2nd place.

25-32 2C, 1C, and 3C six hands round and back.
