What is It?:	"Fàilte" means welcome in Gaelic, and all Scottish dancers, beginners and experienced, are most welcome! The Fàilte Ball is intended to be a gentle introduction to the ball scene for newer dancers, and a fun night for all. Enjoy a scrumptious dessert buffet, live music, and dancing in a semi-formal setting. Never been to a ball before and not sure what to expect? Check out our guide for the neophyte ball-goer and then grab your ghillies and join us on the dance floor.
Place:	Barton Open School 4237 Colfax Avenue South, Minneapolis (on Colfax Avenue between 42nd and 43rd Street)
Music:	Thistledown (Anne Benson, Sherry Ladig, Pat O'Loughlin, and Ken Steffenson)
Tickets:	$17.00 A discount of $5 is offered to students and those who are attending their first Scottish country dance ball. Tickets for non-dancers are $5 (includes dessert buffet and live music). Other Activities:	There will be a ball walkthrough on Friday, December 5, at Olivet Congregational Church in St. Paul. There will be a ball practice on Saturday, December 6, starting at 9:30am at the Tapestry Folkdance Center. There will be a potluck"after-glow" party at the home of Sherry Gwegorryn. Bring a dish to share. Directions to Sherry's will be available at the ball.

9-12 Middle person faces partner to the right. Set , then turn with both hands.

13-16 Middle person faces partner to the left. Set , then turn with both hands.

17-24 All dance left-shoulder reels of 3, beginning with the middle person facing partner to their right.

25-32 All advance and retire, then pass through the opposite line of three to face the next line of dancers around the circle.

Cumberland Reel

4x32 J 4C set RSCDS 1

1-8 1C and 2C right hands across and left hands back.

9-16 1C dance down the middle and up.

17-28 1C, followed by 2C, 3C, and 4C, cast down for 6 bars, meet partner and dance up to original places for 6 bars.

9-16 1C in promenade hold (man on the right) , dance down the middle and up behind the men's line. End in original places facing down.

25-28 1C cross RH (2 bars). 1M dance down behind women's line while 1W dances down behind men's line to end in 4th place on opposite sides.

29-32 1C turn RH 1 1/2 to own sides.

8x32 S 3C Let's All Dance

1-8 1C cast down behind own lines for 4 bars and cast back up to place.

9-16 1C, 2C, and 3C dance mirror reels of 3 on the sides, taking hands when meeting partner. 1C dance in and down to begin.

17-24 1C lead down the middle for 2 bars, face each other and set once, lead up to the top and cast to 2nd place. 2C step up on bars 7-8 of the phrase.

25-32 2C, 1C, and 3C joining hands on the sides advance (1 bar) and retire (1 bar), dance back-to-back with partner (4 bars), and turn partner BH once around (2 bars).

Strip the Willow

9/8 J in a 4, 5, or 6 couple set

Part 1: Woman strips the willow:
1C turns RH 1½ .
1C goes down the set with the 1W turning LH with 2M, then RH with partner, LH with 3M, RH with partner, etc., until she reaches the bottom of the set and turns partner RH.
Man strips the willow:
1C goes up the set with the 1M turning LH with last woman, RH with partner, LH with next woman up, RH with partner, etc., until he reaches the top of the set and turns partner RH.

Part 2: 1C strips the willow:
1C goes down the set with 1M turning LH with 2W, while at the same time 1W turns LH with 2M. 1C turns partner RH.
1C turns 3C LH, partner RH, etc. until they reach the bottom, where they turn RH for the final time and end at the bottom of the set.
A new top couple begins as previous couple is turning RH at the bottom of the set for the last time.

St. Bernard's Waltz

16 Waltz 1C Traditional Ceilidh

1-4 In ballroom hold, moving towards the lady's right, step-together, step-together, step-together, then lightly stamp both feet.

5-6 Moving in the opposite direction, step-together, step-together.

7-8 Take two steps towards the center of the room (lady heading forwards with right foot then left foot, man backwards with left foot then right).

9-10 Take two steps back out (same feet).

11-12 Lady turns about on the spot under the man's left arm.

13-16 Waltz onwards round the room.

Highland Rambler

8x40 R 3C Goldring/Leeds Silver Jubilee

1-4 1C dance in toward each other and cast off one place (2C step up on 3-4).

5-8 1C and 3C right hands across.

9-12 1C and 2C left hands across.

13-16 1W, followed by 1M, cast up around 2W; they dance down the middle to end 1W between 3C and 1M between 2C.

17-24 In lines of 3 across, all dance down, pull back right shoulder and dance back up. 1C end facing up.

25-28 1M followed by 1W cast off around 2W, ending on own sides in 2nd place.

29-32 1C turn RH

33-40 2C, 1C, and 3C dance six hands round and back.

1-8 1C cast down for 4 bars, turn inwards and dance back up to original places.

17-24 1C, followed by 2C and 3C dance down the middle. 2C and 3C divide and follow 1C, who dance back up. Finish with 1C at the top of the set facing down, 2C facing up, and 3C on the sides.

25-32 1C & 2C dance the rondel to change places.

Wild Geese

1-4 1C and 3C set advancing for 2 bars, then balance in a zig-zag line for 2 bars.

5-8 1C turn RH and cast off to 3rd place while 3C turn RH and lead up to 1st place.

9-16 Repeat bars 1-8 with roles reversed to end in original positions.

17-24 1C down the middle and up to end in 2nd place. (2C step up on 19-20)

25-32 1C & 2C dance rights and lefts.

9-16 1C, followed by 2C, DANCE UP between the top couple, CAST OFF one place, DANCE DOWN below 3C's position and CAST UP, ending in the order 2C, 1C, 3C.

17-24 1C TURN RH with 1st corners, pass each other RS, TURN RH with 2nd corners, and pass RS to own sides in 2nd place.
