RSCDS - Twin Cities Branch 10th Annual Fàilte Ball

What is It?:	"Fàilte" means welcome in Gaelic, and all Scottish dancers, beginners and experienced, are most welcome! The Fàilte Ball is intended to be a gentle introduction to the ball scene for newer dancers, and a fun night for all. Enjoy a scrumptious dessert buffet, live music, and dancing in a semi-formal setting. Never been to a ball before and not sure what to expect? Check out our guide for the neophyte ball-goer and then grab your ghillies and join us on the dance floor.
Place:	Barton Open School 4237 Colfax Avenue South, Minneapolis (on Colfax Avenue between 42nd and 43rd Street)
	Doors Open at 6:30pm. Grand March at 7:00pm
Music:	Thistledown (Anne Benson, Sherry Ladig, Pat O'Loughlin, and Ken Steffenson)
Tickets:	NOTE: To ensure that this event is affordable for all, we are pleased to announce that ticket prices have been reduced from last year! $18.00 A discount of $5 is offered to students and those who are attending their first Scottish country dance ball. Tickets for non-dancers are $6 (includes dessert buffet and live music). To register, just send a check made out to RSCDS Twin Cities Branch along with your name, address, and phone number to Judith Palmateer, 1935 Berkshire Drive, Eagan, MN 55122. Other Activities:	There will be a ball practice (walk-through of the entire program) from 7:30 to 9:30pm on Friday, December 8, at Olivet Congregational Church in St. Paul. There be a ball practice (dance-through of selected dances from the program) from 10am to 12noon on Saturday, December 9, at Tapestry Folkdance Center in Minneapolis There will be a potluck"after-glow" party, at the home of Gred and Deb Lance in Eden Prairie . Directions will be available at the ball.

1-4 In ballroom hold, moving towards the lady's right, step-together, step-together, step-together, then lightly stamp both feet.

5-6 Moving in the opposite direction, step-together, step-together.

7-8 Take two steps towards the center of the room (lady heading forwards with right foot then left foot, man backwards with left foot then right).

9-10 Take two steps back out (same feet).

11-12 Lady turns about on the spot under the man's left arm.

13-16 Waltz onwards round the room.

1-4 All clap. 1C cross, passing right shoulders, and cast off one place.

5-8 1C & 3C dance RH across.

9-12 All clap. 1C cross, passing right shoulders, and cast up one place.

19-20 1W & 3M change places giving RH while 1M & 3W loop around to the right to face back in.

1-8 1W, followed by 1M, cast behind 2W, dance across the set and down behind 3M, across the set and down behind 4W.

9-16 1C dance up under arch made by 4C, turn 1 1/2 with both hands, and dance up to original places under arch made by 2C.

17-24 1C, followed by 2C, 3C, and 4C lead down the set. When 4C reach the top of the set, they cast off to own places followed by 3C, 2C, and 1C.

25-32 All dance back-to-back. 1C face down and chain down the sidelines, giving RH to 2C, LH to 3C and RH to 4C to end in 4th place.

1-4 1C dance a half figure of 8 around 2C, crossing down to begin.

5-8 1C change places with 2C giving outside hand (1W & 2M give RH, 1M & 2W give LH), then change places with 3C giving the other hand.

9-12 1C dance a half figure of 8 around 3 couple above them, crossing up to begin

13-16 1C change places with 3C giving outside hand (1W and 3W give RH, 1M and 3M give LH), then change places with 2C giving the other hand.

17-24 1C join nearer hands and dance down for 2 bars to the middle of the set. 1C set to 3C, turn to face each other and set to partner, then set to 1C.

25-28 1W dance RH across with 2W and 3W while 1M dances LH across with 2M and 3M

25-32 1C dance a half figure of 8 around 2C (4 bars), then cross RH and cast one place (or to the bottom of the set).

1-8 1C set, cast to 2nd place, and dance half a figure of 8 around the 2C (2C step up on bars 3-4).

9-12 1C set twice, 1W turning to face out on the last two pas de basques.

12-16 1W, followed by her partner, casts up & dances down middle to finish between 3C facing 3M, while 1M finishes between 2C facing 2M.

17-24 1W with 2C and 1M with 3C dance RS reels of 3 across the set.

25-28 1W, followed by her partner, casts up behind 3M & crosses to own side (1M dances down middle & casts up to finish on his own side).

29-32 1C turn RH.
