Dronology: a short potted history of the bagpipes

Dronology: a short potted history of the bagpipes

    August 3, 2020

Following up on the fabulous talk Katie Brady gave last month on the basics of bagpipes, piper extraordinaire Dick Hensold will offer "a short potted history of the bagpipes, as illustrated by several different types of pipe. And a few tunes, if desired. But not too many jokes. Really, not. Unless you make me."  Not to be missed!

    (Virtual) Monday Night Class

    August 10, 2020

Fer will guide you through a review of the three-couple act of the performance repertoire.  This will NOT be just for people who want to perform, nor will it be a Rehearsal.  We're using the performance repertoire to generate the dances we'll try to envision as we try to get in a little vaguely Scottish Country Dancing-like movement. If we do get a chance to resume rehearsals or performing at any point, maybe this will serve as a reminder/jump-start. Or maybe those of you who have never performed will satisfy your curiosity about the kind of dances we perform. Once we're done moving, we can talk about what it's like to perform or tell stories about That One Performance, OMG! for the edification/amusement of all. Or maybe we'll all just get sweaty wandering around seemingly aimlessly in our living rooms to some really awesome music.

    Monday Night Special: International Dancing

    Monday Night Special: International Dancing

    August 17, 2020

Fer Horn will pick some dances from her international folkdance repertoire that lend themselves to warming up, cooling down, and some bouncing around to fun music in the middle. Along the way, we'll learn some of the dance moves "vocabulary" that makes up non-Scottish dances the way "skip-change," "pas de basque," and "strathspey setting" make up Scottish Country Dancing. You can try a new style of dancing in a venue where no one other than your cat will judge your "spontaneous hyper-local variations," or I suppose you can hang out with a beer listening to very not-Scottish music while watching me jump around in my dining room.

If you've got shoes that let you pivot but not slip on your dancing surface, you might find them useful. And bring a scarf or handkerchief. Morris dancers, you can bring your hankies if you must, but only one! 😉

Fer and Lara will guide you through a review some of our interval dances from the current performance repertoire and of those from the recent past.
